Guillermo López Rodriguez

Born in the city of Pucallpa, Peru, Guillermo belongs to the Shipibo-Conibo tribe, renowned for its rich traditions in healing and spirituality. He began his journey into traditional medicine at the age of 24, motivated by a deep paternal love when his son fell seriously ill. In his family, there are numerous renowned shamans, but before discovering his vocation as a healer, Guillermo sought to heal through meditation and prayer. One day, however, his spiritual guides warned him that his son’s condition could worsen.

It was then that he met Maestro Manuel Vásquez, after his wife initiated a conversation about Guillermo’s desire to become a healer. With determination, Guillermo approached Manuel and expressed his longing: “I want to heal the sick, just as you have healed my son; I want to learn from you.” The maestro accepted Guillermo as his student but imposed a strict condition: he would have one week to demonstrate his commitment, or he would not be able to continue.

The first medicine he received was Marosa; the maestro administered the ícaro using tobacco and informed him that the training diet would last three months. During this time, Guillermo faced numerous challenges set by his maestro, who sought to verify his worthiness as a healer. His first ayahuasca ceremony, held during this diet, proved enlightening: he understood that he was the first student of Manuel, a confirmation his maestro later provided.

The restrictions of the rigorous diet posed a challenge, marked by the deprivation of salt and other essential foods. However, after three months of discipline and sacrifice, his maestro asked him to undertake his first healing: a two-year-old girl whose health was concerning. Despite his initial shyness, Guillermo proceeded with the diagnosis and managed to heal the girl in just one day, convincing his maestro that he was ready for more advanced training.

After 16 years dedicated to traditional medicine, Guillermo continues to follow a regimen of diet and training. He has worked at Casa Shipiba and Aya Madre, where he has trained nine Peruvian students and four foreign students, all now equipped to heal and help others.
